Was It True

Genuinely Surrendered?

Romans 10:9-10

New International Version

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

The tears that could fill buckets, Calvin Miller calls them. Did they flow from the trough of penitence? The dash to the altar in response to the call to discipleship. Did you mean to get away from the debased lifestyle you have lived all your life?

Monday, the challenge for every Christian, has come, and the music has died—the singers have gone home, and the skillful instrumentalists have also retired until Sunday. Can you still hear the message of the lyrics and the word from the pulpit? Does your heart still rejoice, craving for the Master who called you to come to Him?

O, but the corporate ladder! It hangs tantalizingly before you. The business deal is ready for signing, and the gossip corner remains open, with a certificate to adorn your prowess and skill of conviction. The family tradition—how could you abandon them—your flesh and blood.

Maybe Calvary’s soil is not rich enough for you to flourish in and enjoy its life. The problem is, you did not stay long enough for your heart to yield to the Savior and His blood to purge it. A tiny drop on your shirt and you pulled back and away from Jesus with outstretched hands to welcome you into His kingdom. You will not let Him touch your soul. Maybe—just maybe—if you had been less emotional and more genuine when you said, “Here I come, Jesus,” your story would have been different.

But the God of second chances! He has not closed the door on you yet, so long as it is still day. The dangerous game to play with Him is to think you have tomorrow because you don’t! You do not even own the next second unless He gives it to you (Hebrews 3:15).

Overwhelmed with godly sorrow that leads to repentance (2 Corinthians 7:10), why don’t you dive into His river of grace now and let faith carry you (Ephesians 2:8-9) into the kingdom of the Son He loves (Colossians 1:13)?

It could be your last call!

Shalom.
