Hung On His Word

Yet they could not find any way to do it, because all the people hung on his words—Luke 19:48

We have read and heard messages on the famous temple clearing by Jesus (Lk. 19:45-48). But have you noticed the closing sentence of the account of Luke (48)?

It sounds pretty insignificant, but if you can isolate the phrase “hung on His words” and think through it prayerfully, you will hear something refreshing and encouraging in our quest to balance our lives and what we profess. What did the people hear from Jesus that grabbed their attention to that degree?

Throughout His ministry, the crowds heard nothing but refreshingly inspirational teaching from the Master. He served them spiritual food they had never received from their spiritual leaders. Can you sense the hunger of the people and their thirst for the pure word of God Jesus imparted to them?

The authority in His voice and freshness of the teachings attracted the people to Jesus, and the Jewish leadership did not like it. This attraction drew their displeasure, and they hated Him for that.

Though they did not comprehend them, the people still hung on to every word Jesus uttered. Their devotion prevented the authorities from touching Him. Would it be wrong, therefore, to propose that getting hung on the pure word of God has the power to repel the enemy? I do not know about you, but I know that the saint the enemy fears most is the one who has fully adorned himself in the full armor to God.

How hungry and thirsty are you for the pure word of God? Are you hung on every word He has entrusted to you? Does it reflect in your life?

May you have nothing to do with the compromised word floating around these days from the false teachers who pollute the minds of the ignorant. May your devotion to sound doctrine restrain the enemy from touching you and your family (1 Tim. 4:16) in the matchless name of Jesus, amen!
