Jeremiah 9:23-24

New International Version

“Let not the wise boast of their wisdom

    or the strong boast of their strength

    or the rich boast of their riches,

but let the one who boasts boast about this:

    that they have the understanding to know me,

that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness,

    justice and righteousness on earth,

    for in these, I delight,”

declares the Lord.

Today In the Word

This truth is all we can boast in—that we know Jesus and understand that He is the Supreme King and Sovereign Lord—the only source of our contentment and joy. Everything else is vanity, King Solomon says—a chasing after the wind. How useless is that?

Repeatedly in the history of Israel, God has shown His unfailing love to His people in diverse situations. Examine how He protected His people, the Jews, in Persia by humbling the proud, arrogant, boastful, and hateful Haman from his wicked plot to annihilate them, and marvel at His justice and righteousness. Consider the end of the life of all the tyrants of this world. They show how God reigns over all His creation with equity and justice.

Let wisdom and humility embrace you and rejoice in your salvation and intimacy with Christ through the indwelling Holy Spirit.
