Ephesians 2:2
New Living Translation
You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God.
For Meditation
No one could have used the scripture on me and gotten away with it before Christ took hold of me thirty-two years ago. How dare anybody tell me I was a servant of the devil, doing his bidding and going to hell? I was a Christian—or was I?
Born into a Christian family, christened Moses, a very prominent name, attended Christian schools through high school, got confirmed by the highest authority in the Methodist church of Ghana, sang in the choir, and even preached a sermon in secondary school. Everything told me I was a Christian with a passport and visa to heaven. So, I could enjoy my life and still be faithful in church and service. How then could anybody call me a servant of the devil who commands the power in the unseen world? (Eph. 2:2).
But that is who I was—the chief of sinners — self-deceived and blinded to my horrifying eternal fate. Like Samson, I did not know that the Lord was not in my life.
Unfortunately, that is the situation of many in the church today and everybody outside of it. Many are plying the trade of the devil and having a good time at it as I was, not knowing they are in slavery to Satan and condemned with him to eternal damnation. He is a rough taskmaster and very prideful, giving no rest to his servants, who think they are having fun and a happy hour. His yoke is difficult, and his burden is unbearably heavy—a craftily concealed fact.
Child of God. How does this truth make you feel about your salvation? How do you show your appreciation and expression of genuine thanksgiving? Do you celebrate it with your obedience? (Jn. 14:15).
Are you like me before 1980? You need a Savior, not religion. You need a heart change and a new life, which is possible only in Christ Jesus. Plead your case with Him today in repentance and experience His cleansing and exhilaration of a new life in Christ (Rm. 3:23; 6:23; Acts 2:38: Jn. 1:12-13; Rm. 10:9-10, 13; Eph. 2:8-10).
