Mark 4:35
New International Version (NIV)
That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.”
For meditation
His invitation to come with Him is so warm.
“Let us go over to the other side,” He told His disciples (Mk. 4:35). The appointed time to crossover to the other side had come, and Christ wanted His disciples to experience something new. But what did they know?
Mark says they left the crowd behind and took him along just as he was in the boat (36). But who took who?
The dark world was angry. Jesus could not cross the lake to free their captives. So, a big storm broke, and the waves rose high and pounded the boat. This lake will be your grave today, one of those demons said.
In the stern, their Master slept comfortably on a cushion – or was He? How could He, who watches over His flock, sleep? How could Israel’s Shepherd slumber? Has He not promised never to let their feet slip (Psalm 121:3-4)?
“Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”
Faithless followers! Who created the sea and the wind? Who engineered the movement that generates the waves? What authority has the created thing over the Creator? So, how could anyone think they would drown in any furious storm when the Creator is with them?
“Peace! Be still!”
Three words! Nothing more, and the wind and the proud waves heard the Master’s voice. Obedience was their only choice. Calm replaced turmoil.
Who is this? Even the wind and waves obey Him.
It’s true. This authority and power were new to the disciples. They were before the Holy One and were in for another surprise in their life. Jesus is God!
He is the Person you have believed in and committed your life to. He is your Creator, Savior, Sustainer, Lord, and King. All power and authority come from Him, and nothing can resist His command.
He who gave you the strength to wake up today calls you to come with Him along the way. No matter how fierce the opposition ahead may be, the Master’s voice that calmed the sea will break you through, and everything will be peaceful around you.
So, take your shield of faith and come with the Master, and enjoy the ride.
Shalom
