Psalm 145:3
New King James Version
Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised;
And His greatness is unsearchable.
For meditation
Who can fathom the greatness of our Lord, the Great King, over the entire universe and all other rulers? Can anyone measure His greatness? Doesn’t it call for everlasting praise, with enthusiasm every day and forever? Is He not worthy of your praise this morning and through the day? David shouts a resounding affirmative and sings God’s worthiness of our enthusiastic praise (Psalm 145:1-2).
I will exalt you, my God and King,
and praise your name forever and ever.
I will praise you every day;
yes, I will praise you forever.
David’s praise is a personal response to God in His vastness and power (1-7). It is the outflow of his heart to God, His King, whose name is worthy of praise for eternity, and why not?
God is great and worthy of praise (3). Look at His creation—its wonder, beauty, and power. Examine His redemption plan and its gracious outworking in Christ and bow in worship. Then marvel in His magnificence and goodness, as revealed by the Holy Spirit in His beloved. That is how great our God is. That is why He is worthy of our praise—why His praise shall continually flow from our hearts and mouths, now and forever, amen!
Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts; let them proclaim your power (4 nlt).
Can anyone praise God like David in this psalm and not commend Him to succeeding generations? Each generation commends the mighty works of the Almighty God to the next. What’s stopping you then?
As you ponder His majesty, the magnificence and riches of God’s creation, and His miraculous hand that intricately weaved them all together, you cannot help but shout it to the next generation (5).
Doesn’t His incredible power that created and sustains everything hold you spellbound (6)? Don’t you hear it proclaimed from the lips of all peoples and languages around the world? So how can you not join this chorus of praise to the King of glory?
Why can’t you join in the festive celebration of God’s abundant goodness and sing about His righteousness daily (7)? That, my friend, is your testimony about the greatness of God, the Eternal King—a testimony that has the power to resound through all generations.
So, go on! Exalt the God of all creation for the splendor of His majesty and praise Him for His goodness. Experience the joy that bubbles in your heart and the energy that flows to you for victory.
Pray With Me
Father, let us see your glory, even in the mundane things of our lives—the daily chores, the routine tasks, the ordinary moments—so that we can praise you every day and commend you to future generations until Christ comes. Amen.
