The Love Of A Mother

The Love Of A Mother!

“But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart” – Luke 2:19.

I want to sing the love of my mother and indeed of all mothers today, and to celebrate their heart of pure gold. For many have loved me, but your love, Ma, surpasses them all.

It began when you conceived me, and the Master Craftsman fearfully and wonderfully weaved me in your womb (Ps. 139:13-14). Your tender strokes on your tummy delighted my heart, etching a smile on my face. Oh, how I wish you could have seen it! So, who said life does not start at conception?

You endured the pains, discomfort, and restlessness of pregnancy and carried me until childbirth. Your heart sounded your joyful expectation of seeing my face when you vowed not to have another child after me. Today, I confess how comfortable and secure you made me feel coming into this world, and how eager I also was to see your face.

When you clenched my father’s hands and, with sweat on your brow, pushed with a scream, I cried with joy to know that we had both survived. Thank you, Ma!

Though often naughty and causing you much heartache, your love never failed. You agonized through sleepless nights when the fever would not leave me. Your tender breasts became my tranquilizer between sobs at midnight. Your love stood firm, communicating warmth and assurance through gentle touch, whispers, and melodious singing.

You did not deny me any good thing growing up. Your wise counsel impacted my decisions and protected me from harm. Best of all, you gave me the most precious gift of life—the love of Christ. You led me to the foot of the cross where mercy and grace embraced me in Christ Jesus (Eph. 2:8-9). There, I received my new birth (John 1:12-13). There is nothing I can give to repay your love, Ma, but this assurance I can offer you.

As your strength ebbs away and you become dependent, I will love you, be devoted and care for you. Though the world offers me the moon and my hectic profession often pulls me away, I pledge to suffer through the same displeasure and sacrifices you endured for me growing up; it is my token of appreciation for you.

How can I forget the Many things you’ve given me in life? How can I despise your Old age? Your Tears still flow from your travail in prayers for me. Your Heart still beats for me. How then can I miss your Eyes shining with love? I can’t continue denying you were Right when I stubbornly challenged you on issues. Oh, how glad I am that you, MOTHER, did not give me over to my folly!

So on this Mother’s Day, I am proud to call you my sweet mother, and to love you back; maybe not as much as you’ve loved me, but enough to shed a little light through your dimming eyes, and to put a warm smile on your face.

Happy Mother’s Day!

  1. Good evening, Pastor and thank you for this beautiful and eloquent piece, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I would have liked to share it with my children because I know that they would have liked to express the same sentiments to their mother. Regrettably, this is no longer possible because she was called home to glory on 6 May 2023 after a relatively brief illness. Although it was two years ago last week Tuesday, it’s still very fresh in our minds. Nevertheless, we thank God for her life because she was all you described your mother was and meant to you. She meant all the world to me, as she did to all our five children and seven grandchildren.

Thank you, Pastor, for bringing a few tears to my eyes this evening, which i am endingwith broad smileas she have wanted!!!

With best wishes and regards. John Kayode Shinkaiye

    • Good morning, sir, and a happy Wednesday to you from Accra. I was shocked by the news of your dear wife’s transition a few years ago, as you communicated with much love in the letter. I had no knowledge of it and even sent our greetings to her a few days ago on this platform when you responded to one of the messages.

Please receive our heart-felt condolences for your temporal separation until our gathering before our Lord of glory forever. To Him be glory and honor above all creation. Amen!

Though we did not meet her, the gift she sent to my wife when I first met you in Dakar years ago opened her beautiful heart to us. It was warm and embracing, with love wrapped all over it. My wife cherished it, and the memory of it lives on beyond her life on this side of eternity. May the Lord keep her soul in perfect peace in Christ, the Prince of Peace. Amen.

Please know that we share your loss and pray the joy of the fond memories of your lives together you shared will cheer your through the days ahead in Christ.

      Have a blessed day, sir.

      Kwame.
