Before Your Troubles Began

Esther 3:11

New International Version (NIV)

“Keep the money,” the king said to Haman, “and do with the people as you please.”

For meditation

The Medes and Persians, led by Darius, took Babylon and ended the exile (Daniel 5:31). After seventy years, the Jewish exile ended. King Cyrus ordered the Jerusalem temple rebuilt (Ezra 1:1-4), and the Jews returned in three waves. Some Jews stayed because they were comfortable. Why leave if life was good? Soon, a plot would threaten their comfort.

Meanwhile, King Xerxes promoted Haman, an Agagite (Esther 3:1). Haman, driven by hatred for Jews, received a royal order to kill them (v.10). Haman and the king had a drink (v.15). They did not know God had already prepared people and events to block their plan against His people.

In the unfolding events that followed, Esther became queen, and the “Divine Rescue” began. When God ended the drama, the tables had turned. The king had Haman hanged on the gallows meant for Mordecai (7:10). A counter-decree against the Jews’ enemies reversed their fate (8:9-10). This showed God’s control in Susa and His rule over the nations. Heaven triumphed, and God’s people were safe in a foreign land.

God is present in our lives and cares for us, though Esther’s story does not name Him. The story teaches that our perception matters: if we look for God only in successes, not in troubles, we may become confused and our beliefs may change. God quietly guided Mordecai and Esther, showing His simple control. Mordecai silently trusted God and believed that help would come, even if Esther did not act.

Haven’t you walked into favorable situations several times that you considered impossible? How many doors opened when you thought them closed? You did not see them in the challenging moment, but the ultimate victory showed His constant presence.

So, remain steadfast in faith despite your fear or threats. Rely on God’s sovereignty and Jesus’ daily companionship. Let God’s work in history inspire you and respond faithfully to His promises.

Release your worries and trust God’s plan. Remember, God prepared deliverance before your troubles began. When His plan is unclear, keep trusting His presence. Just as God delivered His people in Esther’s time, He provided the ultimate deliverance for us through Jesus Christ. Through Jesus’ death and resurrection, God has rescued us from sin and given us hope no matter our circumstances. God never abandons His children—hold fast and act in faith now.

Pray with Me

Lord, I choose to trust you right now by faith. Empower me to act boldly for your glory. Remind me every time to embrace your plan and live by faith in your resurrection power.
