This scripture reassures both believers and leaders that God listens and protects His children. When we stay close to Him and obey, we can trust that He supports us, even when others spread harmful rumors. This promise gives us the peace we need to stay focused on our purpose and do it well.

“Has the Lord spoken only through Moses? Hasn’t he also spoken through us?” The text says, “And the Lord heard this” (Numbers 12:2). This reminds us that God is always paying attention.

Aaron and Miriam opposed Moses because he had married a Cushite woman. This incident highlights a common pitfall for Christians: jealousy. Such envy can damage relationships and disrupt church unity. Consider the potential fallout had God not intervened. However, the scriptures assure us, “The Lord heard this.” He heard their hurtful words and disapproved. Aaron and Miriam were slandering their brother, Moses, a man favored by God. While their motives remain unclear, the text emphasizes, “And the Lord heard this.” 

Moses might have been unaware of his siblings’ gossip, but God was safeguarding him. When God is on your side, He guarantees true security. Sibling rivalry is an age-old issue. Even family and friends are not free from feelings like jealousy or hatred. So, if you hear negative rumors or harsh comments about your work, do not be surprised. These words can be upsetting or make you doubt yourself, especially if others think they could do your job better.

It may help to read the scripture again, this time slowly and carefully:

“And the Lord heard this.”

You can be sure that God hears those who speak against you, and He does not like it. Even if you are not aware of it, God is protecting you and will stand up for you, just as He did for Moses. Don’t let them distract you from your purpose, or you will become like them. Stay committed, and let honesty and integrity guide everything you do.

The battle does not belong to you; it belongs to the Lord! Keep your peace in Him. Remind yourself that God has heard them and has you covered. Pray for those people as God would have you (Matthew 5:44), and see the peace that comes over you.

Father, I thank you for always having my back. What a sense of peace it brings to my wearied heart with all the surrounding whispers. No wonder you did not provide any protective piece for my back in the armor you gave us, for you provide that protection. Be glorified in Jesus’ precious name. Amen.
