Psalm 98:1

Sing to the Lord a new song,
    for he has done marvelous things;
his right hand and his holy arm
    have worked salvation for him.

The doctors said they couldn’t have children, but they believed otherwise because of their faith in Jesus. They were young and newly married. They prayed and waited for years. Curious family members and friends bombarded them with questions; but how could they reveal the doctors’ report? So, they quietly managed their discomfort and growing apprehension. Inspired by a message in church one day, the young man cried out to the Lord in prayer, just as King Hezekiah and the Prophet Isaiah son of Amoz prayed when the King of Assyria came against Judah (2 Chron. 32:20). Our God, who answers the deepest cries of His children, changed their song shortly after. Now, he smiles and thanks the Lord every time he holds their two adorable girls. They can sing a new song to the Lord for what He has done for them.

We all have testimonies to share to encourage one another. They are about special times God revealed His glory to us. They call us to sing a new song to the Lord for His mercy and grace through Christ Jesus. Our trouble is that sometimes we wait for big occasions before we sing His praises. But God is good every day. Even in Judah’s darkest hour, the Prophet Jeremiah could sing a new song to the Lord.

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” (Lam. 3:22-23).

That’s why the Psalmist exhorts us to “Sing to the Lord a new song, for He has done marvelous things; His right hand and His holy arm have worked salvation for Him” (Psa. 98:1). We are beneficiaries of this great salvation through Jesus. So we have every reason to sing a new song to Him, regardless of our situation.

Feel God’s constant compassion for you today and notice how He renews it every morning and brings you new strength. Don’t let temporary troubles hide the love God has for you in Christ Jesus. Neither should you allow your challenges to weigh you down or consume your circumstances. Lift up your heart and sing a new song to Him today.

I pray you remember the day God saved you by “His right hand and His holy arm,” and sing a new song to Him; for He has done it marvelously in Jesus.

May you rejoice today; and may your joy inspire someone by your side, as our young couple’s new song has inspired this message.

Lord, thank you for your daily doses of fresh compassion that renew my joy and change my song of praise, despite the gloomy times. Amen.
