Bring Color Into Your Life

Bring Color into Your Life

Ephesians 5:8-10

New International Version

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) 10 and find out what pleases the Lord

For Encouragement

On the US television show Property Brothers, Drew and Jonathan Scott—a real estate agent and a contractor—team up to help homeowners breathe new life into their tired, drab houses, transforming them into brilliant, inviting homes bursting with color.

They tear down the old building and redesign the house into a masterpiece, so breathtaking it astounds the homeowner. Every color and light they allow into the house makes it a place people truly long to call home.

As one writer describes another home makeover show, Color Splash, they invite you to “Step out of the beige box and step into a life with color!” In much the same way, the Christian journey entails a vibrant transformation.

When God saves us (Eph. 2:8-9), He takes ownership of our lives (1 Cor. 6:19-20) and makes us new in Christ (2 Cor. 5:17). Once He evicts the former owner, the Holy Spirit moves in (Eph. 1:13). Yet as new creations, we can still resemble a weathered house—with crumbling walls and peeling paint, in need of restoration.

Just as an old house may require renovation, the redeemed also need thorough transformation. We become God’s masterpiece in Christ (2:10). The Holy Spirit takes His new design and rebuilds us from within. Unlike a physical structure, our outward frame remains, but the true renovation occurs deep inside the heart (Eph. 2:8-9). As the new house owner (1 Cor. 6:19-20), He takes full residence. Yet even as new creations (2 Cor. 5:17), we can resemble an old, weathered house with cracked walls and paint flakes.

Unlike the Property Brothers, who relocate homeowners to luxury hotels during renovations, we remain present, partnering with the Holy Spirit as He works alongside us to remodel our lives.

Throughout this lifelong renovation, the Holy Spirit shines a revealing light into every dark corner of our hearts, exposing what no longer belongs (Eph. 5:13). With our willing cooperation, He clears away old habits, renews our minds, and conforms them to God’s purpose (Rom. 12:2). In their place, He outfits us with a bright, colorful new way of living (Gal. 5:22-23).

As the Holy Spirit renews us, we become more like Christ (Eph. 4:12-13). His light radiates through us, pushing back the darkness and leading others toward His marvelous light (1 Pt. 2:9). Our renewed, colorful lives draw people in, making them feel at ease in God’s presence as we diffuse the fragrance of Christ in every place (2 Cor. 2:14-15).

As children of light, therefore, let us welcome God’s chisel, hammer, and paintbrush to shape our lives into colorful masterpieces for His glory. Let us join hands with our new Homeowner to transform our once dull existence into something brilliantly colorful. It is time to step out of the beige box and walk into a life bursting with color!

Let Us Pray Together

Lord, thank you for your transforming power at work in my heart to shed light and color, brighten my life, and spread the fragrance of Christ wherever I go, so all may come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior. Amen.
