The Parable of the Persistent Widow not only reveals the power of unwavering prayer (Lk. 18:1-8), but also shines a light on the remarkable confidence that guided the woman’s actions.

Persistence often springs from a deep confidence in the rightness of our cause. Without a just claim, few find the courage to keep pressing forward after a setback.

For the widow, her confidence was rooted in the integrity of her plea. She saw the injustice in the judge’s decision and boldly sought a change, even from someone known for unfairness (3).

Sometimes we struggle to pray because we lack confidence. When we feel guilty (1 Jn. 3:21), it can take away our courage to come before God (Heb. 4:16). Sin and the world can make it hard to draw close to a holy God.

God is good, merciful, and just. He forgives those who are truly sorry, and He brings justice to those who are hurting from the painful experiences of this world. When we approach God with pure hearts, seeking His forgiveness (1 Timothy 2:8), nothing can prevent Him from delivering justice for any wrong done to us. This assurance gives us confidence as we come before the Father in Jesus’ name (1 John 3:21). What is on your heart to ask Him today (Philippians 4:6-7)?

Remember, you serve a gracious God who promises justice for His chosen ones who call to Him day and night (7), in the name of Jesus. May you trust Him in your circumstances and keep praying until He moves on your behalf. May our Lord Jesus Christ bring you justice, and may it come without delay.

Yet when your moment of vindication comes, will Jesus discover faith alive in your heart?

Heavenly Father, grant that people treat us fairly, and when they abuse our rights, may you step in to bring us redress in the gracious name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
