Psalm 25
New International Version
1 In you, Lord my God,
I put my trust.
2 I trust in you;
do not let me be put to shame,
nor let my enemies triumph over me.
3 No one who hopes in you
will ever be put to shame,
but shame will come on those
who are treacherous without cause.
For Encouragement
When life feels like a storm, and trouble presses in from every side, who becomes your anchor? When sorrow fills your days, and fear shadows your nights, whose strength do you seek to steady your heart?
If David’s own father could forget him when Samuel came to anoint one of his sons as king over Israel (1 Sam. 16:11), who else could he trust again? When his own brothers couldn’t tolerate him because God had elevated him over them (13), how could David expect any support and encouragement from them (17:28-30)?
When King Saul took issue with his fame and made David his prime target for destruction (18:6-9), where, and in whom, could he seek refuge (21:10-15)? With Saul and the entire army of Israel hunting him, was there any hope for survival? Do you see why David couldn’t get enough of God and always sang of His faithfulness and love (Ps. 26:3; 36:5; 40:10)?
Perhaps, like David, you find yourself surrounded by shadows, with hope seeming far away. Yet, can you remember how God has always stood by those who trust Him in their darkest hours? Can you lift your voice and declare, “In you, LORD my God, I put my trust”? Will you rise from despair, as David did, and boldly proclaim, “No one who hopes in you will ever be put to shame”? What a beautiful promise. Truly, God is good.
How many times did God rescue David when hope seemed lost and King Saul was closing in? Just as God shielded David and raised him as king, will He not also watch over you because you trust Him? God’s faithfulness did not end with David; His promises are alive for us today. He is just as ready and willing to help those who call on Him now as He was then. Why believe God will shame you before your enemies? Instead, He will turn the tables and bring justice to those who wrong you without cause.
Psalm 25 overflows with promises for those who trust in God. David pours out his heart, longing for guidance and asking God to reveal His ways. God pledges to lead the humble, teach those who seek Him, and pour out mercy and forgiveness on all who turn to Him. This psalm reminds us of God’s unwavering love, His shield against shame, and His power to deliver those who hope in Him. My prayer is that you will call on God to reveal His ways and guide you in His truth, trusting in His mercy and love that never fail.
So, are you in trouble? Look to the Lord and trust in Him. He will not allow your shame, nor let your enemies rejoice in your defeat. No one who hopes in Him will ever suffer disgrace (Psa. 25:3). Never!
