Audacious Christian Determination

Audacious Christian Determination

Joshua 14:12

New International Version (NIV)

Now give me this hill country that the Lord promised me that day … the Anakites were there and their cities were large and fortified, but the Lord helping me, I will drive them out just as he said.

For Meditation

Faith, commitment, and determination are disciplines that set extraordinary Christians apart. Faith receives the promise with joy. Commitment carries it forward. Determination makes a person act on a promise. Determination needs boldness to face serious challenges.

Caleb shows this truth in his life. He received God’s promise by faith at forty in Kadesh Barnea. He committed to God and fought with the young to claim the Promised Land. Forty-five years later, Caleb stood to claim his share. His land was in the hills, with large cities and sturdy walls. The Anakites, the giants, lived there. The challenge was enormous, even for a young man, but eighty-five-year-old Caleb asked for it with bold determination. He said, “Now give me this hill country that the Lord promised me that day … the Lord helping me, I will drive them out just as He said.” Caleb’s determination rested on faith and a commitment to overcome challenges and win victories. These are the disciplines we need for real and victorious Christian living. The odds are against us, but we can overcome with the Lord’s help for Christ’s glory.

Are you driven by purpose in your walk with Jesus? What has the Lord promised you, and how long have you waited? Does the desire still burn in your heart? Don’t give up or turn back because of the challenges you face. Are those challenges emotional struggles, like anxiety and self-esteem, or marital, professional, or relationship issues? They are not unscalable.

What you need is faith, commitment, and determination to pursue the Lord’s promise, despite serious obstacles. Let Caleb’s bold determination at eighty-five inspire you to speak hope into your life. Trust God to help you climb mountains, break down walls, and defeat giants that have intimidated you. It is possible.

I pray you will know God’s deep grace and understanding for every season and struggle you face. If you feel weary because of age or life’s hurdles, remember that God’s promises remain true for you. He is gentle with our weaknesses and patient as we journey. In Christ, all God’s promises are ‘yes’ for you, and through Him we say, “Amen” to God’s glory.

Pray with Me

Lord of all possibilities, you work perseverance in us to make us perfect in Christ. Please honor our determination to live for You. Give us joy to strengthen us against all opposition. In Christ Jesus, we pray. Amen.
